What Are Eternals in Predecessor?
Your build starts taking shape before you buy an item. Predecessor Eternals give your Hero a Major Blessing and two Minor Blessings, letting you shape your playstyle during draft. Introduced in v1.14, this system replaced Minor Augments while keeping a separate Hero Augment in your loadout.
Eternals are deities whose blessings provide gameplay benefits. Each Eternal has a unique Major Blessing: a passive effect that persists throughout the match. Their themes cover different approaches to combat, including high-risk lifesteal and tank builds with unlimited Max HP scaling.
Your starting customization breaks down like this:
| Loadout element | Selection |
|---|---|
| Hero Augment | 1 Hero Augment |
| Eternal | 1 deity from the launch lineup of 12 |
| Major Blessing | The selected Eternal’s unique passive |
| Minor Blessings | 2 total, choosing 1 from each of 2 sets of 3 |
These effects are active from match start. Plan your item purchases around them rather than waiting until your build is already underway.

How to Unlock Eternals
All 12 Eternals unlock at player level 10.

Before reaching that level, you receive a predetermined Eternal and its Minor Blessings based on your selected Hero and role. You still enter matches with blessings; level 10 opens up the selection.
The unlock is tied to player level. Keep that distinction in mind when looking for the system during draft.
How to Choose Major and Minor Blessings
Start with the Major Blessing because it defines the Eternal’s central benefit. Then choose one Minor Blessing from each of that deity’s two sets. You cannot freely combine Minor Blessings from different Eternals.

Read all three parts together before committing. The Major Blessing establishes the core effect, while your two smaller choices complete the setup.
Use the playstyle you want to pursue to narrow the options:
- For low-health aggression, examine the blessings built around near-death lifesteal.
- For a scaling tank, look at the options that build Max HP over time.
- For an alternative role setup, explore another archetype when its effects complement your Hero’s abilities and planned items.
The archetype labels are thematic groupings. A Carry can select a Fighter or Supportive Eternal, and the system allows experimentation across those categories.
Pairing Eternals With Hero Augments and Items
Treat your Hero Augment, Eternal, and equipment as connected decisions. You begin the match with the Augment and blessings already active, then develop that setup through item purchases.

Choose the Eternal for the way you intend to fight. If you select a blessing centered on surviving near death, plan around its lifesteal mechanic. If you choose health scaling, build around that durability. Check the actual effects rather than selecting a deity solely because its theme matches your role.
Hero ability scaling also matters. The v1.14.4 balance pass added Magical Power and Physical Power hybrid scaling to various abilities, expanding the connections between Hero kits, Eternals, and item builds.
Read your Hero’s ability ratios alongside the blessing descriptions before trying a different damage route. A thematic match alone does not explain how those effects interact.
How Saved Eternal Selections Work
Your selections are remembered per Hero and per role after you choose them for the first time.
For example, choosing a setup for Argus in Midlane saves that combination for future matches with Argus in that role. Taking Argus into Support uses the recommended setup until you customize his Support selections.
Switching roles therefore deserves another look at the selection screen. Set up each Hero-role combination you play instead of assuming one saved choice covers every position.
What the v1.14.4 Balance Changes Mean for Builds
The v1.14.4 update adjusted and reworked Eternal Blessings to address extreme power spikes and improve less popular options. It also changed the surrounding combat environment through increased tower and minion durability, Hero adjustments, and buffs to some Fighter and anti-tank items.
Revisit older builds after balance changes. Read the current blessing effects alongside the items they depend on, especially when a setup relies on a particular power spike. Changes to durability, ability scaling, or equipment can affect how that combination performs even when its overall playstyle stays familiar.
