What Is Brawl Mode?

Predecessor brawl packs 5v5 combat into a compact, single-lane arena where winning means draining the enemy team’s points. Faster gold, accelerated leveling, and shorter ability cooldowns get you into team fights quickly. The catch: chasing kills can cost you the match if enemy minions keep slipping into your portal.

Brawl launched on May 21, 2024, alongside Aurora. This guide covers that launch version’s scoring, objectives, and arena mechanics.

Unlike the standard mode, Brawl removes defensive towers and team cores. Each team instead protects a portal near its spawn while fighting over the lane and surrounding objectives. You start with three skill points to spend, and faster respawns keep the action moving.

How Brawl Scoring Works

Each team starts with 400 points. Reduce the opposing team’s total to zero before yours runs out.

Predecessor — How Brawl Scoring Works

Hero kills are only part of the equation. Clearing minions, delivering Fangtooth, and securing Orb Prime all reduce the enemy score.

Get an allied minion into the enemy portal1
Escort allied Fangtooth into the enemy portal15

Five enemy minion kills remove as many points as one Hero kill. Clear an approaching wave before pursuing a low-health opponent across the arena, especially when your portal is exposed.

Watch both point totals as the match progresses. If your team is close to zero, prioritize intercepting incoming enemies and minions. If the opposing team is nearly out, keep clearing its minions rather than forcing a risky fight for a flashy finish.

Defend Your Portal and Escort Fangtooth

Your portal sits just in front of your spawn point. Every enemy minion that reaches it removes one point from your team, so leaving a wave unattended creates a direct scoring opportunity for the opposition.

Fight where you can still respond to the lane. Before following teammates into a side skirmish, check whether enemy minions are already moving toward your portal.

Turn Five Hero Kills Into a Push

After your team kills five enemy Heroes, an allied Fangtooth spawns and advances toward the opposing portal. It attacks enemy minions and Heroes along the way.

Getting it through the portal removes 15 points, equal to three Hero kills. Escort it with teammates, clear enemies blocking its path, and pressure opponents who try to bring it down.

Apply the same logic on defense:

  • Intercept enemy Fangtooth before it reaches your portal.
  • Keep track of the accompanying minions.
  • Avoid chasing its escorts so far that the dinosaur gets through behind you.

A successful team fight creates room to push. Use that opening to move Fangtooth forward instead of immediately scattering around the arena.

Use Side Buffs and Health Packs Between Fights

The central lane draws most of the fighting, but the sides contain monsters that grant buffs. Killing these monsters does not deduct enemy points; their value comes from the advantages they give you during the next engagement.

The arena’s buff options include:

  • Orange buff: Increases your hitting power and jump distance.
  • Purple buff: Makes you tougher to take down and increases your size.
  • River buffs: Provide a range of effects and spawn on timers throughout the match.

Take a side objective when the lane is under control. Leaving an incoming wave to collect a buff trades immediate portal protection for a combat advantage you still need to use.

Green health packs offer another reason to watch the edges of a fight. Picking one up heals you and nearby allies.

Move close to injured teammates before collecting a pack so they can benefit from its healing radius. During a contested fight, taking an accessible pack can also deny that recovery to the enemy team. Avoid crossing into concentrated enemy attacks just to reach one.

Make Orb Prime a Team Objective

Later in the match, Orb Prime spawns in the middle of the arena. Securing it removes 50 enemy points and grants your team empowered minions plus health and mana regeneration.

That immediate deduction equals ten Hero kills. The regeneration and minion buff also give your team tools to maintain pressure afterward.

Before committing to the objective:

  1. Clear enemy minions threatening your portal.
  2. Group with teammates so you can respond to an enemy contest.
  3. Watch the opposing team’s approach instead of focusing entirely on the boss.
  4. After securing it, push alongside your strengthened minions.

Avoid starting Orb Prime while teammates are scattered and the enemy team is nearby. Its central position gives both teams an opportunity to contest, and fighting the boss can leave you exposed to an incoming attack.

Practice Hero Combos Without Losing the Objective

Accelerated leveling and reduced cooldowns make Brawl useful for learning a Hero’s abilities through frequent combat. Spend your opening three skill points, then practice connecting abilities while staying close enough for teammates to follow up.

Use the arena’s barriers to break up enemy approaches or set up a flank. Check your team’s position before committing: a successful engage needs allies in range to capitalize on it.

Keep an escape or defensive ability available when stepping forward. Shorter cooldowns encourage frequent casting, but spending every tool at once can leave you stranded during the enemy response.

Build your practice around specific situations: clear a wave with your area attacks, interrupt an opponent threatening Fangtooth, or protect a teammate contesting Orb Prime. Those decisions let you learn your Hero while contributing directly to the score.
