How to Play Jungle in Predecessor
Balance farming with ganking to keep up in gold and experience. This Predecessor jungle guide helps you balance farming, ganking, and objective control so your movement creates an advantage. Start with a reliable clear, then adjust your route when the map gives you a reason.
Your main income comes from jungle monsters rather than lane minions. Clearing camps builds your levels and items; visiting lanes creates opportunities for your teammates. Spend too long chasing kills and your farming suffers. Ignore lanes entirely and the opposing jungler gets room to pressure your team.
Before leaving a camp, decide what you want from your next move:
- Farm: Collect available camps when nearby lanes offer little opportunity.
- Gank: Attack an exposed opponent when your teammate can help.
- Defend: Move toward a teammate who is vulnerable to an enemy rotation.
- Take an objective: Convert favorable positioning or a successful fight into a team reward.
For a beginner pick, start with Khaimera or Feng Mao. Keep your hero pool small while learning routes, matchups, and how much pressure you can apply without falling behind.

Understand Camps and Buff Priorities
Regular camps supply gold and experience. Red and Blue Buff add combat benefits, making them valuable parts of your route and attractive targets for an invading jungler.

Red Buff adds damage and a slow to basic attacks. Use that slow to help stick to a target during a gank.
Blue Buff provides mana regeneration, ability haste, and extra damage against jungle monsters. Work it into your clear to support repeated ability use.
Plan around your buffs becoming available, especially when the enemy jungler has access to that side of the map. Leaving a valuable camp exposed gives them a chance to take both the reward and your next farming opportunity.
The smaller objectives around lanes also matter:
- River buffs: Restore mana and provide a changing bonus, such as movement speed or attack speed. Coordinate with your mid laner before taking one.
- Gold Buff: Provides a substantial gold reward near duo lane. Help your carry contest it when the lane position allows.
- Green Buff: Provides gold, experience, healing, and mana restoration near solo lane. Account for its sustain when planning pressure there.
Avoid wandering across the map for every available buff. Include them in a rotation that also serves a nearby lane, camp, or larger objective.
Plan Your Opening Jungle Route
Choose your opening route before camps become available. Look at which lane you want to approach, whether your hero needs uninterrupted farming, and where an enemy invade could threaten you.

A Full-Clear Starting Point
Use this sequence as a repeatable opening:
- Red Buff
- Five camp
- Two camp
- Four camp
- Blue Buff
- Three camp
Practice the route until you can clear while checking the minimap. Then adjust it instead of repeating it automatically.
For a full-clear alternative when your Red Buff is on Fangtooth’s side, try:
Three camp → Blue Buff → four camp → two camp → five camp → Red Buff → recall
Finishing on Red Buff lets you return after shopping with its combat benefits available. Use that opening when you want to clear your jungle before applying pressure.
An Earlier Gank Route
For an early mid-lane attempt, try:
Red Buff → two camp → mid lane
Take this route when the enemy mid laner has pushed forward and your teammate can participate. After the attempt, return to a clear farming plan rather than waiting around for another opening.
You can also clear Red Buff, two camp, and five camp before approaching a nearby lane. Watch the actual wave position: a matchup that looked vulnerable before the game might be playing safely once you arrive.
Adjust for an Invade
Against an early invade threat, consider clearing two camp before Red Buff. This removes a nearby camp the invader could steal and gives you a route to back away if they enter.
Keep checking neighboring lanes. If your teammates cannot leave their waves, plan your escape rather than relying on reinforcements.
Gank When the Lane Gives You an Opening
A teammate asking for help does not automatically make the lane gankable. Check the target’s position, your teammate’s condition, and the distance you must travel before committing.

Look for these opportunities:
- The enemy has pushed far from safety.
- Your teammate has enough health and resources to join.
- An allied stun or other crowd control can help you connect.
- Your approach avoids obvious enemy vision.
- A successful play would create access to a tower or objective.
Approach from an angle that puts pressure on the enemy’s retreat. In Predecessor’s third-person combat, your entry path matters: use jungle routes and fog walls to make the attack harder to anticipate.
Keep the attempt short if the opportunity disappears. Chasing an opponent deep into dangerous territory can cost your life and leave your camps available to the enemy.
After forcing an enemy out of lane or securing a kill, check what you can take nearby. Help pressure a tower, contest a buff, or move toward a jungle objective. Turn the opening into something your team can keep.
Build for Clear Speed and Your Hero’s Job
Your opening item affects how quickly you farm and return to the map. Choose an item that works with your hero’s damage pattern, then adapt later purchases to the match.
| Item | Clearing mechanic |
|---|---|
| Overlord | Basic attacks deal cleave damage to nearby enemies. |
| Fire Blossom | Deals damage in an area around your hero. |
| Elefrost | Adds area damage to a basic attack after using an ability. |
| Mind Razer | Adds area damage to basic attacks. |
| Malady | Triggers area damage when you kill a unit. |
| Spirit of Amir | Supports magical junglers with jungle sustain and increased monster damage. |
For a farming bruiser, consider Overlord to speed up grouped camps. For a tank, consider Fire Blossom or Elefrost.
With Elefrost, alternate abilities and basic attacks while allowing its proc cooldown to recover. Avoid spending all your abilities together when spacing them would give you more item activations.
For an assassin, compare Mind Razer and Malady for area clearing. Mantis Sight offers another approach through increased monster damage and sustain.
For a magic damage jungler, consider Spirit of Amir. Its jungle benefits support farming, while its magical power benefit outside the jungle supports lane pressure.
After your opening purchase, build for the fights you are actually taking:
- Add anti-heal when enemy healing is a problem.
- Buy protection when you cannot survive long enough to contribute.
- Add damage when your team needs help finishing targets.
- For a physical bruiser focused on ganks, consider Berserker Axe for access through fog walls or Augmentation for damage after ability casts.
Recall to spend your gold before an important rotation. An item sitting in your shopping plan cannot help you win the next fight.
Use Vision Before Invading
An invade can steal farm and expose the opposing jungler’s route, but entering blindly risks giving away a kill.
Check nearby lanes before crossing into enemy territory. Make sure your teammates can help before committing. Invade when that support is available, especially when you know the opposing jungler is elsewhere.
Use vision around:
- Entrances connecting lanes to the jungle
- Routes leading into your buffs
- Fangtooth and Orb Prime
- Enemy jungle paths that reveal rotations
Clear enemy wards with a Sentry when preparing an approach. Denying vision helps your ganks and makes objective setups harder to read.
When the enemy jungler appears on the opposite side of the map, inspect your nearby options. Take an exposed camp, pressure a lane, or organize an objective if your teammates can help. Choose the available reward instead of spending the rotation crossing the map toward a fight that is already ending.
Turn Objectives Into Map Pressure
Fangtooth and Orb Prime give your team reasons to group beyond chasing kills. Prepare the surrounding area before starting either boss.
Check who is visible, whether nearby teammates can rotate, and whether your team has enough health and damage to finish. Place vision on approaches and clear enemy wards before committing.
Fangtooth
Fangtooth grants teamwide benefits, including to teammates who are elsewhere on the map. Plan your route toward it when nearby lanes can support the attempt.
After a successful gank, inspect the objective immediately. If the enemy cannot contest and your teammates can help, use that opening before opponents return.
Mini Prime
Mini Prime empowers its killer and nearby minions, supporting lane pushes and tower pressure. Take it with a plan for where that pushing power will go.
Coordinate with the teammate positioned to help you attack a structure. Carrying the buff through another farming rotation wastes an opportunity to use its lane pressure.
Orb Prime
Orb Prime provides a powerful team buff with increased damage and health and mana regeneration outside combat. Organize a team attempt rather than approaching it like a regular camp.
After securing it, group around a lane your team can pressure. Use the increased damage to threaten structures, then use the regeneration between exchanges to maintain the siege.
If opponents control an objective and your team cannot reach it safely, ping the danger and take an available reward elsewhere. Preserve your team’s ability to defend the next push instead of adding staggered deaths to the lost objective.
