How to Play Against Bots in Predecessor

If you’re searching for “Predecessor how to play against bots,” look for Player vs. AI. This mode lets you fight computer-controlled opponents either solo or with friends. Use it to learn a hero’s abilities and get comfortable with the match before taking on human opponents.

Player vs. AI was introduced in Patch v0.4 in February 2023. It gives you a dedicated alternative to PvP, so practicing against bots doesn’t have to end when you’re ready to start playing against people.

For a solo session, choose Player vs. AI and play on your own. To practice together, team up with friends and select the AI mode. Solo play here means entering without a friend group; AI-controlled allies also appeared in the 2024 PlayStation closed-beta bot matches.

At its February 2023 introduction, Player vs. AI launched in beta, with bugs still possible during matches. Players were encouraged to report problems so the developers could address them. That beta status belongs to the mode’s original release, rather than describing its current development stage.

What to Practice in AI Matches

Predecessor combines third-person combat with MOBA objectives. Landing attacks matters, but so does earning resources and knowing when to leave a fight.

Predecessor — What to Practice in AI Matches

Give each practice match a specific focus:

  • Learn your hero’s abilities. Read what each ability does, then practice aiming and connecting attacks against enemy heroes. Work on a repeatable sequence before switching characters.
  • Keep earning experience and gold. Fight enemy minions instead of spending the entire match chasing heroes. Minions provide resources that help you develop your hero during the match.
  • Practice skill upgrades. Pay attention to how your abilities change as you level them. Keep using them throughout the match so you become familiar with their roles.
  • Play for objectives. After winning a fight, look for an opportunity to attack enemy structures. Practice turning a combat advantage into progress across the map.

With friends, use these matches to rehearse communication. Call out the enemy you want to attack or the objective you want to approach, then practice moving together.

The AI mode arrived alongside a Fangtooth overhaul in Patch v0.4. Fangtooth is a map monster that grants buffs when defeated, giving teams a reason to fight over something besides enemy heroes. Learn where these monster objectives fit into your movement around the map instead of treating every encounter as another opportunity for a kill.

In that February 2023 version, successive Fangtooth kills granted three permanent passive bonuses:

  • First kill: +50% jungle buff duration, with the increase capped at 30 seconds.
  • Second kill: +8% out-of-combat movement speed.
  • Third kill: +8% Physical Power, Magical Power, Physical Armor, and Magical Armor.

That patch capped permanent passive rewards at the third kill. After three total Fangteeth had been killed in a match, Primal Fangtooth appeared, offering a temporary buff called Primordial Blaze instead.

Under those Patch v0.4 rules, Primordial Blaze made damage ignite enemy targets for true damage over four seconds. Its damage increased by 50% against enemy heroes below 25% maximum health. The buff’s base duration was 120 seconds, extended to 150 seconds by the first Fangtooth bonus. Those historical values illustrate why learning an objective’s reward matters alongside learning how to defeat it.

Avoid Learning Bad Habits From Bots

Bot matches give you room to experiment, but easy kills can distract you from learning the game.

Predecessor — Avoid Learning Bad Habits From Bots

During the 2024 PlayStation closed beta, both allied and enemy AI sometimes attacked monsters they were too weak to defeat, leading to repeated deaths and drawn-out matches. Avoid following a teammate into a monster fight automatically. Consider your own strength before committing.

Likewise, resist chasing every vulnerable enemy. Keep practicing the decisions you’ll need against human players: earning resources, choosing fights, and helping your team take objectives. When you move into PvP, bring a friend if you want someone familiar to coordinate with while you adjust to human opposition.
